Broken Promises
by Jose Rizal
Unfortunate incidents are neither welcomed nor tolerated, yet they persist due to mismanagement, lax oversight, or perhaps the sheer absence of critical thinking among those in higher positions. A concrete example is the recent chaos of what is currently occurring with questionable actions of Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC). Instead of fostering fairness, it turned into an ordeal—one that highlights the longstanding cracks in our system. This leaves an ordinary Ilocano family gasping for air.
However, this is merely a fragment of a much larger mirror of crisis—a reflection of a deeply embedded affliction in the Philippine natural landscape. For decades, the country has grappled with systemic failures, where the Filipinos are not only deprived of quality living but are also subjected to logistical nightmares that should have been preventable. The struggle is not just in small places but extends to the very infrastructure meant to support the country. Despite various attempts to address these issues, negligence and mismanagement continue to hinder real progress. The burdens that should never weigh upon the Filipinos instead become thorns in their living experience, pricking at their potential and impeding their growth.
The ramifications of these failures stretch beyond mere inconvenience. They foster an environment of disillusionment, where the people—who should be empowered by education—find themselves battling obstacles imposed by those who were supposed to lead them. How can the future of a nation be bright when its people are shackled by the consequences of poor governance? How can one expect normalcy from the Filipinos when their institutions fail to uphold even the most basic standards of organization and foresight?
These failures stem from the reckless decisions of those in positions of power, creating a domino effect with far-reaching consequences. A single poor decision, no matter how seemingly trivial, can spiral into a nationwide crisis—an unfortunate reality that continues to plague the nation’s learners. Until genuine accountability and proactive governance take root, the academic affliction will persist, leaving Filipinos to suffer the consequences of a system that refuses to evolve.
