‘Net Zero Project’ to be proposed in Ilocos Norte

by Andres Bonifacio

LAOAG City, Philippines—As the province confronts the alarming rise in the rate of electricity bills, the Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Vicencio Dizon emphasises the urgent need for both immediate and long-term solutions.

“Manila and the Calabarzon region have already implemented the Net Zero Project.” the secretary said.

According to Dizon, the “Net Zero Project” aims to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions in the province. This promotes a sustainable source of electricity.

“We will discuss this with the Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC) and the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN),” he added, referring to the proposal of implementing the project.

Ilocos Norte—together with its municipalities and cities—remains hopeful that this project will help significantly reduce electricity failures in the years ahead.

Efforts to clamp down on the issue continue to progress, and the proposals for wider information drives and deeper integration are being pushed to drive the numbers down even further.
